The weather in Kabul is not great. Yesterday’s sleet has turned the “roads” to slushy, diarrhoea-coloured mud. My trousers are spattered with the stuff. The sky is grey and, although the temperatures have not reached freezing quite yet, there is a bitter edge to the air. Miserable stuff. Then today I found a handsome ram dyed red with henna. If that’s not going to restore spirits then I don’t know what will.
