Marijuana plants in Islamabad

As usual I’d approached the building from the wrong side so had to cut through a wild patch of scrub to reach the entrance to the Ministry of National Harmony. It was the pungent, sweet smell that alerted me to the marijuana first. Then I realised the path was going to lead me straight through the middle of it, leaving me ponging of the stuff as I arrived to interview the minister.

It rather reminded me of this CNN “scoop” about marijuana plants growing tucked away beside bin Laden’s cabbages in Abbottabad.

Anyway, the thing is that this stuff grows wild everywhere. It is a weed. And, because it freely pollinates, it will never get you high. So I won’t ever be doing the story about marijuana growing all around the British High Commission…
