Quiet for Now

You can see the smoke from Kibera all over the city. One church, dozens of tiny shacks and countless tyres will be nothing but ashes by tomorrow morning. But for now, things are calming down. There will be more time for reflection later, but it seems that the opposition ODM peered over the precipice… and backed down. There was stone throwing and pockets of violence but sense, it seems, has prevailed. The mobs tried to get past tear gas-wielding police twice, but were talked down bytheir own leaders. There will be more time for talks and mediation until they try for their “million man” march, probably on Tuesday.

Now I have to file.
